About FruKal

What is FruKal?

FruKal is a growing collection of 50+ free online calculators and tools designed to help everyday people make smarter, faster decisions. Whether you're planning a wedding on a tight budget, figuring out how long your startup's cash will last, calculating your body's ideal calorie intake, or working out what to charge as a freelancer — FruKal has a tool for that. We believe that access to accurate, well-designed calculators shouldn't require a subscription, a sign-up, or sitting through five ads. Just open the tool, get your answer, and move on.

FruKal is built and maintained by Seven Hills Iowa LLC, an independent company based in Iowa, United States. We are a small, focused team that prioritizes depth and accuracy over volume.

Who FruKal Is For

FruKal is for anyone who needs a reliable number fast. We serve homebuyers running mortgage scenarios at midnight, brides comparing wedding budget allocations, founders calculating their runway before a board meeting, fitness enthusiasts dialing in their macros, and parents trying to figure out if their college savings plan is on track. Our tools are used by individuals, students, small business owners, and professionals across every walk of life. If you've ever opened a spreadsheet just to do a calculation that should take 10 seconds, FruKal was made for you.

Our Methodology: How We Build Each Calculator

Every calculator on FruKal is built on real formulas sourced from authoritative standards. We don't make up numbers or use rough approximations. Here's what that means in practice:

  • Mortgage & Auto Loan — Uses the standard EMI (Equated Monthly Installment) amortization formula: P × r(1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1), the same formula used by banks and financial institutions worldwide.
  • TDEE & BMI — TDEE uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation (2005, preferred by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics over the older Harris-Benedict formula) combined with PAL (Physical Activity Level) multipliers. BMI uses the WHO standard formula.
  • FIRE Calculator — Uses the 4% safe withdrawal rate, derived from the Trinity Study (1998, updated 2011), with compound growth projections based on historically validated return assumptions.
  • Wedding Budget — Category allocations are based on industry data from The Knot's Real Weddings Survey and regional cost-of-living adjustments derived from USDA and BLS data.
  • Engagement Ring — Diamond grading methodology references the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) 4C framework. Pricing benchmarks are updated annually.
  • Carbon Footprint — Emission factors are sourced from the EPA's Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator and the IEA's annual emissions data.
  • College Savings — Tuition inflation uses a 5% annual escalation rate consistent with the College Board's 10-year Trends in College Pricing reports.
  • Pet Calculators — Dog age conversion uses the 2019 PNAS study on epigenetic aging (not the outdated 7× rule). Pet nutrition uses AAFCO-based RER (Resting Energy Requirement) formulas.

Editorial Standards

Every tool on FruKal is reviewed for accuracy before launch. We include citations and methodology explanations within each calculator page so you can verify the underlying logic. We do not copy results from other calculators — every formula is implemented from primary sources. Content is reviewed and updated when underlying standards change (for example, when IRS contribution limits change, when new research updates nutritional guidelines, or when market conditions shift significantly enough to affect default assumptions).

We update our tools at least annually and more frequently when there are material changes to the standards or data they rely on. Calculators with time-sensitive data (like tax rates or inflation figures) are reviewed each calendar year.
